The Chairman posted to the Facebook Group:-
An enjoyable evening in great company, after the number of entries changed throughout the day we finally settled on the magic number of 16 entrants made up of committee members, delegates, vice delegates and landlords. After a couple of options on format were offered, the contestants decided that a straight knockout format was preferred and so it began with best of 3 in round 1, best of 5 in round 2 and best of 7 for the semi and final.
A few bigger names in the event went out in round 1, the first 2 players getting to the semi were Jamie Latham, overcoming Ralph Parsons and Nathan Gough without losing a frame, Daz Potts taking a major scalp in round 1 against Mick O’Sullivan and Martyn Browne in round 2, the other end of the draw saw Ant Smith of the Trent bowing out to Taff Minor who then took out Josh Boon to reach the semi, the last semi-final space was earned by Rich Haslem, who was 8 balled by Javed Iqbal in round 1 but came through unscathed beating Tommy Cliffe in round 2.
The first semi between Jamie Latham and Daz Potts was over quite quickly, Daz the first player to take a frame from the chairman on the night but Jamie came through 4-1. In the other semi between Taff Minor and Rich Haslem it was 2-1 at this point and it became a very tight match, Rich went 3-2 up and was left kicking himself by the end of this frame with Taff ensuring a decider was needed, after a few visits each Rich finally got the chance he was waiting for and duly mopped up.
Onto the Final which was called by Rich before a ball was hit on the night… The opening frame could have gone either way but eventually went the way of the Bradeley delegate, Jamie immediately pulled back the deficit with an 8 ball and took out the next 2 frames to go 3-1 up. At this point a mistake could have made the difference with Jamie on the hill and in control of the frame, the beer had kicked in and a cue ball was touched by accident but unnoticed by the spectators, sportingly called as a foul and Rich dished up, at 3-2 down Rich went a little behind in the next frame and Jamie was the eventual winner, taking the Trophy with a 4-2 win in the final..
Why doesn’t that ever happen when there’s money on it 😉
Thanks for coming folks !!
It sounds like I missed a good night ( stuck visiting at hospital ), but I’ll be there when the Chairman orders his trophy ( lol ).
