The Chairman posted the following to the Facebook group:-

Firstly I’d like to say well done to all the finalists, it’s a very tough cup to get through with away ties and first to 5 up to this point so again well done for giving yourselves a chance !

We’ll start at the Plaza where the main KO cup final was held between league title contenders the Trent Tavern and a Bradeley side spirited as ever, unfortunately the Bradeley could only muster 5 players so most would think that the result was a forgone conclusion with them 3 frames behind from the start… the opening 2 frames were shared with the next frame going the Bradeley’s way after from what I hear an in off on a black ? making it 2-1 for the Bradeley, from there though the lads from the Trent got going and comfortably took out the next 5 frames making it 7-2 at the turn, with the other 2 frames that were conceded this left the Trent on the hill, Shaun Wooldridge taking out the final black to win 10-2 and taking the silverware back to the Trent.

Over to the Baize where I witnessed a classic cup final between Green Baize and Plaza, the opening exchanges were tense and there were more chicken wings flying across the tables than a food fight in KFC throughout, with both teams feeling the pressure ! The Baize outfit went into the lead early doors going 3-1 up before young Aaron Robinson stopped the rot with his first phenomenal finish of the night and the Plaza duly raced to a 6-3 lead at the turn. The next frame contained in the words of Daniel Jones ‘the best fluke in the world, ever!’ going Plaza’s way eventually, the Baize lads had to roll their sleeves up to take the next 4 frames to level up the score at 7 each, then Roger Taylor had a monster fluke after missing a pot, bouncing off the lampshade and into the opposite pocket, leaving himself plum on his last ball, whilst Daz Potts pulled it back level on the other table, Chris Turner managed to knock in a black after a couple of attempts to give the Baize the edge at 9-8, the last frame was contested by Nath Gough and Ade Gomm, Ade getting the first real chance and managing to hold himself together putting away a tidy finish to win the match for the Baize 10-8 before the roof came off !

Congratulations again to this year’s Champions, cracking night !

Delegates and landlords KO is next week at the Plaza, anyone who hasn’t registered please let me or Ken know asap if you are a landlord, delegate or vice delegate wishing to play.
