The Chairman posted to the Facebook Group:-
*** One Frame Knock Out (prem section)***
Where to start on this event, unquestionably the hardest to win, especially if you’re drinking!
The evening began without a hitch and spanned across 7 tables in the Baize with an excellent turnout of 29 players, most notable absentee (only absentee) were Baize Tavern, failing to muster a single player at their home venue.
Moving onto the action and there were a few major scalps in the opening rounds, current holder Steve Bridgwood bowed out to team mate Brewy Redfern, James Cheadle took out Jamie Latham after a very tight frame, we saw another favourite in Waffer Cliffe dropping down in to the losers section early at the hands of Rich Haslem, Stef Johannson of Green Baize sent 2 Red Baize players packing in quick succession seeing Craig Mears and Brew Redfern take their first losses and possibly the surprise package of the night was Pete Banks of Oggys, breezing through the field and notably dropping Aaron Tatton in making his way to the final of the winners section, the one player to not lose a frame by this point was the ever sober Daniel Jones of Red Baize, who took out Pete Banks to guarantee a spot in the money and in the final, Dan had gone well all night and looked unbeatable in places,
Onto the losers section and after some great performances by too many players to mention individually but the Bradeley lads went well considering their league postion, the 2 stand out names on the sheet though, were Aaron Tatton and Waffer Cliffe, Tatman taking the frame to send Waffer home and firing himself into an all Red Baize final, many would have anticipated this, although most may have expected it to be 2 different Red Baize players making the final.
With the double elimination format Danny Jones had won every frame played at this point so needed one more to win, as Tatman had already lost one frame, he needed to win twice to bring home the bacon, the first frame began and saw Bones messing up with 2 shots and an eventual in off leaving Tatman with a couple of Mary’s to take frame 1 and sending us to a final frame decider, by their own admission it was probably some of the worst pool seen all night but bith players were under pressure in the one frame decider, as you may have seen the video of the last frame was posted last night and Aaron Tatton is the new OFKO Champion !
The event closed at 11.45, congrats to Tatman on winning and thanks for all your support those who turned up, it was a great night all in all, Ken will follow with a write up on the Div 1 section later !
I posted:
At the Plaza only four sides were represented, meaning I had an easy evening to sort out, Plaza ( 7) – Players ( 5 ) – Millrace ( 3 ) & Alma ( 1 ) which gave me a group of sixteen.
D. Steele made it through to face his team mate A. Robinson in the main final, both the Players guys had chances to win the frame but A. Robinson rattled his last ball and D. Steele sunk the 8 for the win.
The plate section saw K. Hughes ( Plaza ) play P. Wragg ( Millrace ) and after K. Hughes rattled the 8 P. Wragg had to make an awkward last ball for a chance of the win, but in potting the ball the white found a pocket, gifting K. Hughes 2 shots on a cleared table with the 8 over a bag.
Having started at 8:45 we were finished by 10:10 so I could nip up the Baize to aggravate the Chairman.
