A fantastic standard of pool…
We’ll start with the main merits trophy played at the plaza, the first semi was over very quickly, Steve Bridgwood putting in a fantastic performance against Jamie Latham, Jamie only had 3 visits to the table with 2 half chances not falling right, with Steve knocking in an 8 ball and 3 great finishes to win 4-0,
The other semi saw Waffer Cliffe steam 2 frames ahead in quick succession against Aaron Tatton before Tatman woke up and managed to edge the next 2 frames levelling the score, the next frame could have easily gone either way with Waff going 3-2 ahead and on the hill, the next frame Tatman played a relatively solid safety shot but Waffer was more than up to the finish managing to split his black and take them out, 4-2..
This opened the door to a great final to watch, the Doctor continued his rout winning the opening 2 frames before finally losing his first frame of the night to a good clearance from Waff, alas Steve won the next frame with another horrible finish to go 3-1 ahead, the next frame saw Waff digging in as best he could but eventually potting the black prematurely, crowning the Doctor our singles champion, doing the double after winning the one frame knockout in the summer.
The sub merits were held at the baize and the matches flew by, the first semi saw Carl Mandley play Tony Latham, Carl was apparently very much on his game, the game saw a ‘monster’ finish from Blind Dog but 4 ‘monsters’ from Carl.. Carl making the final with a fine 4-1 win,
Our other semi was handed to Rich Haslem as unfortunately Tommy Cliffe had to concede on health issues ( come on Tom, get yourself better soon ).
The final began and Carl continued his performance, from what I hear Rich had very little table time and had a horrible in off gifting Carl a frame, and at 3 – 0 down Rich just missed out on a clearance off the break, but Carl he knocked in his 4th good finish to leave Rich with yet another runner up trophy and Carl the deserved champion, winning 4-0
Congratulations lads, another great tournament !
