The Chairman posted to Facebook:-
We had a fantastic night at the Plaza on Tuesday with a field of 17 contesting the annual One Frame KO and the £100 prize pot. The event ran very smoothly and was wrapped up by 10.30pm the last 4 in the winners section saw Ade Kelsall of Smallthorne Vic play our defending OFKO champion Dave Owen, Dave looked likely to continue his run until a horror in off on his last ball gifted the ever consistent Ade the frame. The other match at this stage was between Dom Llewelyn of Northwood Inn, who had notably left Nath Gough and Gaz Harper in his wake, vs myself, a tense frame where we both had chances ensued, unfortunately for Dom he went for a black off 3 cushions and left it over the corner pocket…down in the losers section, Mark Pankhurst of the Northwood had a good run after beating Pete Wragg in the opening game, eventually got beat by Gaz Harper, also a notable run was from A Tulley of the Foaming Quart, eventually coming unstuck against Nathan Gough of the Manor. The last 4 in the losers section saw Dom Llewelyn take out Nathan Gough after Nathan had to attempt a crazy shot after Dom rattled a black and got a good safe white, Dom slid through here, Gaz Harper of Sneyd Arms did it the hard way after going into the losers section quite early, he got past Dave Owen to set up a tie with Dom Llewelyn, their second match of the night, Gaz took control of the frame early and duly won. Back in the winners section the 2 players still to lose a frame were Ade Kelsall and Myself and a high pressure encounter, it looked at one point like the first 8 ball of the event was going to fly in, unfortunately I couldn’t get onto my last ball and had to play a containing safety, which only served to delay the inevitable, Ade eventually got a good snooker and knocked in a competent finish to get through to the final…this left myself and Gaz Harper to Contest the Losers section final for a chance to get in the money, Gaz won the lag and broke off dry, what he left though, could only be described as a horror-show for an oncoming player, leaving nothing, apart from a pretty much guaranteed win for the player who managed to get on yellows, Gaz managed to get on yellows and turned the screw after a brief safety battle, Gaz came out on top as he so often does in these kind of frames…onto the final and Gaz won the lag again, this time he broke like a machine and balls flew everywhere, unfortunately none found a pocket, this left Smallthornes Ade Kelsall with a finish that you would expect him to get, however, he held himself together extremely well to clear the table and kept the cue ball on a string to win the event along with £70, Gaz took the £30 runner up spot.
Thanks very much all for coming and I wish you and yours all the best for Christmas and the New Year, thanks again
